Scouting for Food - Service Project
No One Should Go Hungry…
Cub Scouts Pack 55 and Pack 382, based out of the Arbor View and Briar Glen elementary schools in CCSD89 School District, are collecting donations to help families in our community. Some families are struggling to make choices such as "rent or food." Packs 55 and 382 are partnering with DuPage Pads to assist in meeting our community’s needs. They are in urgent need of the following staples:
Whole grain – brown rice, pasta, cereal
Unexpired canned fruits & vegetables (low sodium & low/no sugar)
Unexpired canned tuna & meats (chicken, ham)
Condiments, Snack Items, Flour, Sugar
Ramen noodle soup, hamburger helper
Hormel meals, chili
Baby diapers, wipes
Bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, toilet paper
Laundry detergent, Tide pods, dryer sheets, paper towels
On Saturday, March 8th at 8:30 am, the scouts will be passing out donated paper shopping bags door-to-door in the Scottdale and Foxcroft neighborhoods. Please collect your bag and start to fill it with the items in need.
On Saturday, March 15th starting at 9:30 am, the Cub Scouts will re-visit the Scottdale and Foxcroft neighborhood homes to collect the grocery bags filled. Please put the grocery bag at the end of your driveway for easier pick up.
A special thanks to Trader Joe’s for their donation of grocery bags for this vital drive!

Scouting for Food
Responding to the plight of America's poor and hungry is a traditional Scouting "Good Turn." During World War I, Boy Scouts planted vegetable gardens to provide food for the hungry. President Roosevelt called all Scouts to collect food for the needy during the Great Depression. Planting Victory Gardens were the Scouting "Good Turns" organized during World War II. Today, the Boy Scouts continue their Good Turn efforts in community stewardship through Scouting for Food.
