(3rd Grade) Just like Wolf Scouts, Bear Scouts have advanced activities to achieve compared to the Tiger scouts. Starting with Bear, scouts are encouraged to be more independent and work with fellow den members on advancements. This is the rank they will work on their Bear Claw Adventure, and earn their Whittling Chip - a card and patch that shows they have learned to use a pocket knife safely. As a Bear Scout and older, BSA documents state specifically that a parent/guardian is not required to attend Den meetings. However, being a Den Leader can be a very time consuming activity which may require the help of parents. Some Den Leaders may elect to have Akelas attend certain meetings or activities. Please remember, although presence is not required, this is a family program.
